But until Kyle helped start Klahn on his title run at Traralgon 1, Klahn himself hadn't been having a good time of it. And Kyle appeared to play so much better this latest week.
So, I guess a real chance to back that up and see where he is at plus possible early revenge. Might have preferred such a meeting a bit further into the tournament though.
From a development point of view it's almost perfect. A chance to see if he has analysed Klahn s game and has a strategy to beat him. Close first set then caved. Lots of learning opportunities. Players that at the turn of the year on the ITF one May have consider problematic to kyle now are considered meat and drink. It's now a question of learning how to master this cohort of challenger players the draws will even out, he obviously needs to stay close to or below 200 so could do with some points to cover the start of last year so he doesn't have to drop down to the ITF to try and top up.
Great result pretty resounding rubber stamp on development this season and the curriculum is a bit broader than just tennis. Great win particularly in the context of his last encounter with the same opponent. Hopefully we will see further progress deep into this tournament on yet another continent. Not quite up their with those infamous FA Cup giant killers Worcester City braving the post industrial dragons den to slay the mighty Coventry City but everything has to be kept in perspective when the bed post already has the likes of Plymouth Argyle and Liverpool AFC on it.
L32: Kyle Edmund WR 230 beat (3) Bradley Klahn (USA) WR 136 (CH 63 in Mar) by 6-2 3-6 6-1
Kyle's next opponent (a wild card whom Kyle beat in Canadian Open juniors in 2011 or a 38-year-old qualifier with a career high of 102 set 16 years ago!) will be decided tomorrow.
Kyle has moved ahead of Ed in the race for the GB no. 4 spot (the main live ranking site is wrong at the moment - points gained last week seem to be missing) - Ed needs to match Kyle this week to stay ahead.

Terrific result to wake up to. In truth, I needed cheering up a bit at the moment and that has done it very nicely. Thanks Kedders. Hoping now for a really strong end to the season in this last week.
