1/1 bps saved by Sam so far in this set, 2/2 by Ed, so still very close. Crunch time now though - 6-4 5-7 *5-6

3 MPs Groth, Ed saves 2 on his serve but Groth now has one on his own

Didn't deserve to lose that match! Good performance though against a top 100 player.

Gutted for Ed - matched or outplayed Groth for long periods.

You have to feel for Ed, don't you. In the form of his life, having won all those futures matches, his earlier foray into challenger tennis failed, but now having raised his level, he gets 2 shocking draws, when one could argue he'd have beaten at least half the field, he loses from a set and break up against Duckworth the eventual winner last week, and then loses against a top 100 player in a nip and tuck match.

I hope these results don't drain his confidence, because he should be comfortably capable of getting into the top 200 next year and securing his WC wimby spot.

I think you misread the comment. Spud said that Giron was a very good player but fingers crossed that the Marcus, playing on a quick court, would be too much for Giron. Which it proved to be.

As to doubters, well I 'doubt' that Marcus will be a top 5 player. Doesn't make me a 'doubter'. You seem rather to go looking for anti-Marcus comments. And. basically, there aren't any. Everyone has been making very positive comments. And those who have mentioned the slight negatives are perfectly within their rights, as it's been done in light of the positives.

I thought, and still think, that Marcus' returns are a touch dodgy. He seems a little slow. Often chips when most top players would be better positioned and able to hit the ball properly. But as said before, that's just a comment like saying he has a great serve and and some nice court craft.
