Liam and Marcus must be happy with that, both winnable. Just Ed with the tough match against a big server on a fast court...

I had to go out just before the end of the second set - pleased to see that Marcus came through!

Ed has had about 4 set points (on Groth's serve) but couldn't quite get one.

Now to serve for the set . ..

Well done Marcus. That must be some of the hardest ranking points he has gained. 3 tough matches especially the last 2.

With the doubles that is 5 qualifying matches.

Great first set from Ed. Serving, volleyed and returning well. Groth is not playing like a top 100 player though.

Sam seemingly is having trouble with the heat - his racquet has slipped several times. And he's been complaining about the noisy fans - I can't hear them on the stream but guess they may be distracting . . . (long may they continue to be so as far as Groth is concerned !)

Ed so close to breaking then at the key moment . . .

Two more break points and can't . ..

Ed is doing so well even though Groth is way off colour! He's missing so many easy balls! I'm worried Ed won't make it count though :/

Ed has never beaten a top 150 player before, let alone a top 100 player. He might not today either, of course - Groth has already had at least one set point and now has another.

That was always the worry . . .

can't really see the third set going Ed's way . . . (hope I'm just a dreary pessimist)

Groth has improved in the second set and put pressure on Ed, but to be fair Ed could have wrapped up the match. Shame the set went like that.

You get the feeling Groth experience will come through in the end.

Just got in to see Marcus has only gone and done it again. That is some qualifying campaign. Really deserved the winnable draw that he has got. Buchanan got double bagelled by Lokoli last week.

Vamos Ed, too.
