Week 45 - Challenger ($50,000) - Knoxville, TN, USA (Hard)

Nice to see Marcus posting - even better to see him winning Lokoli has gone up to 271 this morning too.

A funny coincidence in the doubles rankings too - Lewis has gone up to a new career high of 221 after his run to the Charlottesville final with Marcus, whose own career high is 221 as well!

Updated rankings for the main draw:

L32: Ed Corrie WR 215 v (3) Sam Groth (AUS) WR 81 (= CH) *
L32: (SE) Liam Broady WR 199 v Qualifier

* H2H 1-2 - 1-1 in GB Futures in 2007 then Groth won 3 & 6 in Wimbledon qualifying this year

Were Lewis and Marcus late signing in ?  They seem to have a better ranking than the others that are drect entries.

Or is it just that their rankings have jumped so much this morning following their sterling efforts in Charlottesville last week.

Asked myself the very same question when I was typing the post, Bob (was surprised when I could see no sign of their names in the main draw, so thought I'd better check the qualies & bingo!).  The rise was actually only by 30 places, so I think they must have been.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were a late sign in.  After all they were a bit busy on Saturday wink

This match looked like it was a real serve fest until the last couple of games. Last time I looked, Marcus was 7-6(7) *3-4 and there wasn' a single BP for either player.

Then Marcus broke and served for the match, only to be broken back. As CD says, 5-5*

Got to a TB after having served for the match. But lost the TB 7-3

I would presume they've ended up in doubles quals due to other pairs using a singles ranking to gain entry rather than signing in late.

I've lost count of the number of match points Marcus has has in this Wolmarans service game - here's another one!

Up to 6 MPs in this game (the number of bps in the 3rd set so far), definitely at least 4 - the last one saved with Fritz's 17th ace.

Ace no. 18 (a 2nd serve ace) gets Wolmarans ad-in ... and he holds for 5-5
