There shouldn't be any way of Marcus getting in as an alt as the top qualifying seed is higher ranked, even if Kudla, Dancevic and Ram are all doubtful.
He's played enough straight days and won enough money to cover the trip, so a breather is logical.

Marcus has got to play next week ! I've got him as 10th in the predictions ;)

OK, it looks like there may be sense in him not playing, but but...

Reminds me of my all-time favourite tennis-fan Twitter exchange (intended with tongue-in-cheek irony as your comments were):

Jonathan Kelley ‏@jokelley_tennis 9h

Hey anyone know what happened to Blake Strode? He was having a nice season in 2012 and hasn't played since :/

Colette Lewis ‏@zootennis 8h

@jokelley_tennis I talked to him at the NCAAs last year. He's returned to Harvard to complete his law degree.

Jonathan Kelley ‏@jokelley_tennis 8h

@zootennis well that's just so irresponsible and inconsiderate!! What about my desire to follow his scores on my phone?! #selfish

The number 1 college doubles team in the US if this article is to be believed - http://utdailybeacon.com/sports/2014/oct/8/mikelis-libietis-hunter-reese-make-history-second-/

And thus presumably playing their "home" tournament ... rather unusual for the local university WC team to make the final in a Challenger, though.

After today, I'm taking nowt for granted as far as tomorrow's final's concerned!

Liam broken immediately after a string of errors. Mannarino retrieving well but didn't really have to do all that much there. 0-1*

Errors flying off Liam's racquet so far, very unusual performance. AM holds to love, don't think he's hit a winner yet. *0-2.

Not playing well at all. Two more shots find the net and he lets out a roar of frustration. Gets to 30-30 with a nice serve and volley but a DF hands Mannarino a break point and Liam duly nets (forced this time). 0-3*.

Mannarino hasn't made a single UE yet.
