Yeah my live feed cut out same time too, really annoying!
Tough match tomorrow but James is so confident these days in his own ability, particularly at the crunch time in each set, he'd have to be slight favourite.
Lovely match, what I saw of it. Mr Ward looked very confident and clinical. Exciting times. And you're quite right, Mr Stelling. I think (though I'm not very good at this) that his 18th scorer after this tournament will be 12.
Excellent news to wake up to. Caught the first set until *4-5 and it was a bit scrappy, but glad to hear he came through fairly convincingly in the end.
That win puts him agonisingly close to the top 100 - provisionally just 3 points short. Although, they also had Liam at WR200 last week and he ended up WR199, so...
Of course there are a couple of others behind him in the ranking who could jump him depending on results (namely Ilhan if he makes the Mouilleron-Le-Captif final and Smyczek if he wins Knoxville).
So realistically he's one win away. But given Millman's form, it's not going to be easy.
How much do you want it James?! (Probably not as much as us to be fair, given that at the end of the day it's just a number)
Well done James. Assuming he does get an AO MD place then would this be the first time in 7 years we have 2 men with direct entry places to a grand slam?
Yes, Spectator, his 18th score after this week will be 12 points. After next week, with 15 points coming off and him apparently not playing, it will revert again to 10 points, err precisely what a direct acceptance first round loser gets at the Sustralian Open.
Even if he was getting no points ( as WC R1 losers do ) and thus dropping 10 points or a bit more, he's currently got got 544 of them !
And the way he's playing he might win at least his R1 match, scoring 45 points.
Very well done James - great news!
Thanks again to Bob, our own correspondent, for the commentary - I read it all through before I checked the result!
Good luck to James in the final.
Ah, it's actually the following week, so not until 24/11, that his 15 points ( remaining defense of the year ) come off, but you still no doubt get my point.
Yes, Jan, it can be really good at times to read commentaries through and live it not knowing the result ( certainly much quicker and often much less stressful than for those that watched live ).
So with in particular the Australian Open not that far off and overnight matches, a reminder, please, for no edited spoilers. for ( to us ) big matches given that there will be folk that don't want to read the result ( or even a set score ) until it is won.
