These rankings are based on results of college matches only, and some of the best players are allowed to miss some of their college matches in the Autumn and play US pro events instead.
I presume that's why Faris has dropped out of sight. Very good start for our male freshman. Can't but help think that if they are top 20 by the end of the freshman year and the summer goes well on the ITF they are best served by going pro. Cameron must be our best junior to ever choose US college tennis, would that be a fair comment?
The Div 1 conferences (leagues) are divided into 12 regions which each issue regional rankings (down to 20). Obviously there's some of the same names as in the national rankings, but they're a good indication of the freshmen (and others) who are starting to make their mark. I think these rankings are arrived at by regional committee additionally taking into account tennis outside of college matches (hence Farris appears here but not in the national rankings).
Has Sellyn picked up an injury? She's still on Vanderbilt's roster but not on any of the rankings, which is odd as she played #1.
Not really sure, but I've been back and checked that I didn't just miss her out. As far as I can tell, she hasn't played any matches (college or otherwise) since May 2014 (the end of the last term).
Any idea why Pippa Horn hasn't been ranked? Given some of her domestic results before she went off to college I would have had her down as a better prospect than either Watts or Beazant.
It may be to do with team positioning. All wins count towards a player's ranking but wins over ranked players count for more, and wins over highly ranked players for a lot more. Ranked players on a team have to be fielded in rankings order, so those playing at the top of the order are more likely to play ranked / highly ranked players and thus get more ranking points than those playing towards the bottom of the team. Daneika B and Sophie W both play at 1 for their teams, Pippa usually plays at 5. It may be that the Longhorns have a stack of brilliant players further up, in which case there is no room for Pippa to play higher or it may be that at present she is not strong enough to move up the order. Last year her win / loss record was 16 / 13.
