Current Medal Table.....Ranked on Gold Medals

Aussie 57 Gold
England 22
India 16
Canada 14
Scotland 10
South Africa 9

For a small, small nation to get 10 gold medals is outstanding.

My Medal Table....based on Gold Medals won per head of population....(Edit)

1 - Aussie 20,000,000 / 57 = 350,877
2 - Scotland 5,000,000 / 10 = 500,000
3 - England 49,000,000 / 22 = 2,227,272
4 - Canada 32,000,000 / 14 = 2,285,714
5 - India 1,000,000,000 / 16 = 61,500,000

As they are all sport mad down under Scotland can be rightly proud of beaing second only to them.

Drew, did 2M folk slip into Scotland when noone was looking ?

How about Scotland  =  5,000,000 /  8  =  625.000

By the way, the Isle of Man stuffs Australia.   75,000 / 1    =  75,000

According to the Offical Department of National Statistics the 2001 census gave a population of Scotland as just under 7,000,000. (6.7mill)

Cheers Drew,

As  you say, Scotland should rightly be proud of the great efforts of it's competitors.

If you'ed told me beforehand that Scotland would win 4 times as many men's swimming golds as Ausralia, I'd have thought it even more unlikely than the unexpected fact that Scotland will win more gold medals in total than Hearts will have managers this season !

Congratulations too, to the silver and bronze winners too.

10 G,  7 S,  9 B  =  26,  at the moment, just 4 short of Scotland's best ever total medalhaul of 30.  10 is already a record for gold medals.

Congratulations to Kenny Anderson from the fine city of Edinburgh for notching up Scotland's gold medal no 11  in the light-heavyweight boxing.

Was really good to see him overcoming the holding cheating Nigerian and incompetent referee. not that I was getting at all irritated you understand

However, all's well that end's well

It was a shame, but someone needs shot for allowing it to happen.

I would have expected Danvers-Smith to know the rules, but given that she was a late subsitute for the final, how long would it take an England official to remind her of the changeover rules.

Even I knew that once the changeover line-up is made based on positions during the incoming lap, you don't change your place.  Just think what chaos it would be if positions were changing during the last 100 metres and outgoing athletes were trying to keep changing receiving positions.

They showed a replay afterwards of marching out in one order and then Danvers-Smith looking up the track and on seeing Nicola Saunders now in 2nd place, literally pushing into 2nd from the inside.

All that said, it must have been so awful for the girls, because they had won with ease, were so happy, and had done their post race interview and everyrhing

Err, guess these 2 folk who predicted 10 - 20 medals for the home nations were slightly out then

Maybe they were in time warp ??   Its 2006, the Commonwealth Games, the Olympics is another 2 years yet folk !

Actually, I'd like to think GB will get rather more than 20 medals at the Olympics.

Yeah, tough on the girls.  Feel especially sorry for Nicola Sanders who ran the race of her life and lives just round a few corners from me.

Anybody see the replay of the Australian in the men's relay push his way into lane two waiting for the handover, when he should have been in lane one??
