Drew, did 2M folk slip into Scotland when noone was looking ? How about Scotland = 5,000,000 / 8 = 625.000 By the way, the Isle of Man stuffs Australia. 75,000 / 1 = 75,000
According to the Offical Department of National Statistics the 2001 census gave a population of Scotland as just under 7,000,000. (6.7mill)
Well, thats the Department of National Statistics for you ! Lies , damn lies and misprints ( ?? ) I assure you that the population of Scotland is about 5 million.
Indeed you are right......6.7 million is Scotland AND N.I. Scotland being 5.2m and N.I 1.5m !
As you say, Scotland should rightly be proud of the great efforts of it's competitors.
If you'ed told me beforehand that Scotland would win 4 times as many men's swimming golds as Ausralia, I'd have thought it even more unlikely than the unexpected fact that Scotland will win more gold medals in total than Hearts will have managers this season !
Congratulations too, to the silver and bronze winners too.
10 G, 7 S, 9 B = 26, at the moment, just 4 short of Scotland's best ever total medalhaul of 30. 10 is already a record for gold medals.
Great AThletcis day for us aswell! Local boy (he used to train at the same club as me ), Philips Idowu won gold inthe triple jump!!! Well done Nick Nieland as well for the gold in the javeling. SHame about the 4x400 womens DQ
It was a shame, but someone needs shot for allowing it to happen.
I would have expected Danvers-Smith to know the rules, but given that she was a late subsitute for the final, how long would it take an England official to remind her of the changeover rules.
Even I knew that once the changeover line-up is made based on positions during the incoming lap, you don't change your place. Just think what chaos it would be if positions were changing during the last 100 metres and outgoing athletes were trying to keep changing receiving positions.
They showed a replay afterwards of marching out in one order and then Danvers-Smith looking up the track and on seeing Nicola Saunders now in 2nd place, literally pushing into 2nd from the inside.
All that said, it must have been so awful for the girls, because they had won with ease, were so happy, and had done their post race interview and everyrhing
Yeah, tough on the girls. Feel especially sorry for Nicola Sanders who ran the race of her life and lives just round a few corners from me.
Anybody see the replay of the Australian in the men's relay push his way into lane two waiting for the handover, when he should have been in lane one??
hiya guys!! As the games are finished, i am slightly off topic BUT you know when tennis is played at the olympic, does the winner keep the ranking points until the next Olympics?
