I thought the Champions League final showcased everything bad about football.
22 players of immense skill and fitness who would rather whinge, cheat, slap each other, insist on "fairness" when play has to be stopped because they're feigning injury, but insist on "winking" at referee's when they get a decision they shouldn't have. (hypocrites) 22 players who could then celebrate as if they're world beaters because they scored 5 penalties rather than outclassed their opposition.
The wrong team on the night won. And the fans of the losing team showed their lack of class by rioting down the Kings road and attacking police.
4 players on the pitch out of the 26/7 used were actually players who had grown up and learnt their trade with the club. (Terry, Brown, Scholes, Giggs) The other were purchased for fees between £15 million and £35 million the clubs didn't have so plunged themselves into debt in order to secure.
2 players were brought on in the 120th minute in order to take a penalty. What a farce.
If only they had let their football do the talking...
Kind of agree jonnylad. The behaviour of these so called "role models" plunged to new depths on Wednesday night. And that's saying something considering how low they already are in general.
However I must admit that on this occassion it was a fairly entertaining match, certainly better than I was expecting

Well done to Scotland for squeaking a win...with 10 men....!
Northern Ireland holding Czech Rep to a home draw...well done !
But as for England beating that pub team from 'Zagreb' 4-1 at the mo....apparently most of the Croatian team are part timers....oh sorry that was andorra....anyway expect the usual crazy reaction from the English press "We are gonna win the world cup" drivel...Croatia were shocking but what a player the English have in Walcott...well done to them.
Can i just mention Exeter Citys achievments we have just got a second sucsessive promotion to league 1 for next season. A truly amazing achivement and been amazing year. I would put it down to the best manager in the lower leagues Paul Tisdale what a god League 1 here we come!
Sorry bit out of context but more relevant in this thread. Started in the Stockholm 15K thread around some poor fact checking in relation to alleged cabbage chucking at Mr Steven Bruce ..... ex Manure CB and Birmingham City manager... by Indi.
Football Supporters Federation awards are up and
Remarkably just noticed villa podcasters and website ... MOMS My Old Man Said.... has just been nominated for Fans media of the year in the football supporters federation awards, Generally its media savvy fans that produce the high quality stuff (mainly concentrated in London) so interesting to see two provincial championship teams nominated Villa (MOMS) and along came Norwich .... must give it a listen. Premier teams Palace, Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham also up for the award.
It is fascinating to see how media is changing and how increasingly we access the specific sporting content we want .... for me the kids of the Birmingham Sports Argus was a personal nadir .... in getting the detail I crave but gradually the sheer breadth and volume of content on the net generates some diverse quality products .... this forum being one, MOMS another .... but still look forward to getting print on my fingers on a Sunday morning pawing (sic) over the mainstream stuff.... ie the non league football paper.
