I have to take issue with this bit: "If you value and care about each shot you play in practise and in a match as much as if it were match point at Wimbledon, the consequences will be that you will deliver your best possible tennis".
Au contraire madame: if I were to play each shot in a match as if it were match point at Wimbledon, then I don't think I'd ever get another ball in court. I have absolutely no idea how any of those players can even stand up at match point at Wimbledon, let alone play a shot.
... but I don't have a sports psychologist on my staff, either.
Not sure if this has been picked up elsewhere but Naomi has started a podcast. Google if interested - 'cos I didn't manage to transfer the link!
Thanks for this, I didn't know about it. Interesting stuff. She's a bit finding her feet and rambling in the solo parts of this first episode. Practice will smooth that out. But her interview with Jay Clarke's coach - his sister and GB player, Yasmin - is very good, conversational and illuminating.
The link is: https://audioboom.com/channel/talking-tennis-with-naomi-cavaday
NB: Naomi will probably have to change the name at some point, as there's already an iTunes podcast called 'Talking Tennis'
The second episode of Naomi's podcast is out today, and it covers... well, the obvious topic: https://audioboom.com/boos/4285263-maria-sharapova-faces-two-year-ban-march-9th
New podcast covers a grab bag; drugs, match fixing, JoKo, Judy and her possible replacements. The main guest is a compiler of tennis odds for a betting site: Drugs, Betting and News from The Tour
Anyone know which juniors Naomi C is currently coaching?
About Cav's junior charges, she put up a little thing on her blog: "In other news I am delighted to announce my new coaching position at Virgin Active Riverside Chiswick. I will be working to develop the programme there using the fantastic facilities (15 indoor hard courts!) and of course maintaining my strong link with the JTC programme which are also based there and at Virgin Active Northwood. I start after Easter and I am excited at the potential!"
