A bit of a shocker. It's been a bit of a bleak week and a half for the Brits.

L32: (4) Marcus Willis WR 383 lost to (WC) Alberto Romero de Ávila Senise (ESP) UNR (16yo junior WR 137, JCH 112 in Aug) by 6-1 4-6 6-3

Marcus: "Unfortunately far from healthy still... Fought hard but wasn't to be. Hopefully feel better for doubles. #stinker"

As steven pointed out though, he has been tweeting about being in bed for three days with some horrid (chest?) virus which can leave you pretty weak afterwards, even when you're technically recovered.

So maybe a bit early to say it's unraveled - I'd give him the benefit of the doubt  . . .

L16: (Q) Matt Short WR 1105 v (1) Roberto Ortega Olmedo (ESP) WR 265 (CH 263 in Jun)

H2H 0-2 but getting closer - ROO won 0 & 2 in Tenerife in 2010 and 6 & 4 in Lanzarote last year

Real tricky next round but what a convincing win against a guy ranked higher than Matt's been for quite some while (over 18 months pretty much) . . . :)

good luck to him !

Marcus and Matt have withdrawn from their doubles quarter-final, presumably because Marcus is not feeling well and wants to get home.
