Another good win! Knowing our luck, James would be placed in the Q spot v Pospisil with Murray in R16.

I came back to check the score and it had vanished from livescores but was not showing on completed matches.

I agree it is really annoying - why can't they put the score on the completed matches before they remove it from the livescores. I don't need to know that the score in the next match is 0-0 when they are walking out to the court or warming up. confuse

Maybe we shouldn't have looked so far ahead. Veic has taken the 1st set 7-5. Also nice to know that I have a friend apparently :)

Go Wardy!

Gombos is v winnable!

Believe!

And if he gets through that match, he won't be facing Coric. One teenaged threat was removed by another: Nishioka beat Coric 6-4 6-2.

*5-6 now after missing 3 BPs in total during the set but pushing Gombos to deuce in his last 3 service games.

And loses the 2nd 6-3.

Such slim pickings this year at tour level, shows how good Murray has been in distracting us from the state of tennis elsewhere.

That said, some good developments at challenger level so fingres crossed there

I don;t think one can be gloomy about the progress of men's tennis this year. In fact, it's Murray who's shown the most significant drop and been the most disappointing (although with certain reasons).

This time last year, James was WR 183 and is now WR 119. This time last year there was only one guy ranked in the 200s. And today we have 6 (although 1 is an ex-top 150 guy so only 5 are 'new' stars)

Whereas Andy was WR 4 and is now WR 11 (it's almost tripled). Only Dan Evans has anywhere near that level of drop, and his drop has only been a doubling. The other top 10 guys have all put in a good stint.

I think the worry though is that of all the guys who have "put in a good stint" most of them are players who I just don't see ever progressing beyond being good futures players. Outside of Murray and Ward there is only Evans, and we all know the question marks about him, and younger players like Edmund and Broady.
