RE: Top 250 - 2015

I agree that the second part is far more controversial than the first. The bonus payments are essential given the ridiculously low prize money pots for futures tournaments, and with the progress this year of the likes of Dan S etc, surely they can see that 21 is FAR too early to start writing players off.

Rather then "toughen up" players, any reduction in bonus payments is likely to lead to more Oli Goldings and people being forced to give up too young. We simply can't afford to price promising players out of the business.

Let's not forget that Liam hits 21 before the start of next season. Are they going to remove his bonus payments ?

One day they might get someone in who actually has a clue.

Yes, but if they haven't made it by 21 they're not going to make it and we might as well focus on the younger generation...

Ridiculous !!!!

As you suggest it seems to have largely worked or at least hasn't disincencentivised the over age 21 players.

All but two of our active top 500 players are aged 24 or over and some of these have made great progress this year. Who knows how much the bonus system has been a factor for them, but it certainly hasn't been a hinderance. Why on earth meddle with an area in British tennis - mid 20s male singles players - that is going so well ?!

Why ????

Save money though if just two players aged 21 or under are likely to win very many challenger matches, including qualifying, any time soon.

In principle I would certainly agree with altering the WC cut off to WR 200 - shouldn't be getting a WC into a Grand Slam MD if you're not even a top 200 player.

The issue though would be that WR 250 offers a subjective method of selecting more British players for WCs and while my general views on MD WCs are fairly extreme ( at the very least hugely limit them compared to now ) Australia, France and the USA are very unlikely to stop handing out a big quota of MD WCs to their home players any time soon.

Andy Murray 5
James Ward 75
Liam Broady 85
Kyle Edmund 86 (having watched the best of these guys in the last year, I can't choose between them!)
Dan Evans 150
Daniel Smethurst 180
Edward Corrie 185
Marcus Willis 200
Alexander Ward 225

If Cameron Norrie and Farris Gosea were playing full-time, I would put them up there.

I would also have included Farris but as you say he is not playing full time.

Getting rid of the bonus scheme will only further deter Oli from returning.

You cannot have a fixed age on the bonus scheme as players as this will affect players:

1. who are long term injured - Lisa Whybourn needs funds to get her going back on tour
2. coming out of Uni and playing full time

Also the UK players seem to develop later and start moving through the ranking around 21-24, they need the funds.

Ridiculous suggestion.

Tightening the wildcard cut off is generally approved of. I'd rather we had loads in qualifying and qualifying automatically than getting a wildcard and getting knocked out in round 1. I suspect we will have quite a few who will meet the criteria on the men's side for next year anyway. (Broady/Edmund/Klein/Corrie/Smethurst etc)

Thanks for update, Shhh.

Is Brydan Klein not eligible for a Brit Wimbledon WC ? Certainly in a decent position with his points very heavily weighted to after this year's Wimbledon.
