Millman or should I say Milkman, only conceded 13 points to Buchanan in R1, so either Buchanan is very poor at the moment or Millman is in serious form. Also Giron won his R1 match easily, so yesterday's loss requires further perspective.
2014 continues to be a great year for Liam's development, these type of wins must lift his confidence. Milkman looks a challenge, but what would you expect in a challenger! Great performance keep it up.
Yes. Another terrific win. Let's hope things don't go sour in the next round.
I saw a bit of that match, Buchanan was nowhere near fit and should've retired. We shouldn't read too much in to it. If Liam plays well there's nothing to say he can't win!
I was watching Alex Bolt v. Marcos Giron whilst keeping an eye on the score in Liam's match. The scream of YES!when he was at matchpoint told me he'd won - clearly it meant a lot to him.
Marcos played another very good match against Bolt, winning 0&3 with two breaks in the second set. I have no idea why he is ranked so low, he has been playing all year with no significant gaps. He is only 21 though, perhaps he is only just starting to tie everything together. He hits the ball ball equally hard when he is taken wide but seems to be fast enough to recover his position. This makes it hard to construct points, as Liam found....
I'm sure Liam will be pleased to have the day off today, i'm sure he needs a little time to get his head in the right place for his next match.
I do love it when Lucky Losers scrape in and then take out a big-ish name - makes my day.
Nils Langer, who's not a lucky loser, but a qualifier, has since gone & thrashed the sixth seed, Thiemo de Bakker, by 1 & 3.
Fritz Wolmarans (WR 451/CH 198 in 5/11), a bona fide lucky loser, subsequently also took a leaf out of Liam's book, beating Wayne Odesnik (WR 170/CH 77 in 4/09) in three. There are now only three seeds left in the draw, the top three, viz. Querrey, Smyczek & Klahn.
