Week 41 - ITF ($25K) - Bangkok, Thailand - Hard

Amanda ventures out to east Asia for what I think may be the first time:

I'm sad. I looked. no

Steven is of course right - and, I imagine he just knew it too, instinctively!

I think Sharm is the furthest east Amanda has ever played a match.

I suspect that may be the case for a quite a few of our ladies at the moment.

Mandy has played a lot further south than some of our players, by virtue of her South American excursions

Yes, I couldn't be bothered to look it up, hence the "I think" (so thank you for checking! ) - I was going to say first time in Asia then realised she had played in Antalya, which is in the Asian part of Turkey, but Sharm is probably the furthest east she has played, as you say. Makes sense too given her surface preferences - I was quite surprised she didn't go for Monterrey 50K instead then realised that's on hard courts too!

R1: (q) CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) WR 415 v LERTPITAKSINCHAI, Nicha (THA) WR 371 (CH 306 in Feb 2014)

Seems a decent first round for Mandy - Nicha was a good junior (junior CH WR 55) but hasn't won much this year (or even before really, she's about 23 now).

The winner, though, plays the top seed (or Ramialison) in the second round
