QR1: (q13) James Ward WR 117 v Rajeev Ram WR 147

It's an absolute horror draw for James. If he gets past Ram he plays Matosevic or Troicki in the final round.

James gets a repeat of his last match, hopefully with a different ending!

Ram's CH is 78, set in 2009.

H2H 1-1 - James won 5 & 2 in Manta in 2010 but Ram won 6-2 4-1 ret. in the FQR in Tokyo a few days ago.

It's a masters event. He was always likely to get a horror draw.

 Yes but the number 5 seed or Troicki who is well under ranked, and who beat Ferrer last week, is particularly bad.

I'm glad James is going for it. I just wish that now and again he could play like we know he can when he's not playing Davis cup.

 I'm certainly chuffed for him he's got a CR, but he's beaten top 20 players if I remember rightly, and he's still nowhere near that!

Yes. Having list the 1st set, James was 3-2 up in the 2nd when Ram retired in a role reversal of last week. 16 more points in the bag, although they won't all count.

I just saw retirement and assumed James had a knee problem again.

I'm sure James will take that and the significant prize money for the "win"
