RE: Week 39 - Challenger ($50,000) - Napa, USA (Hard)

Dear ol' Freddie is really getting to be a bit of a pain in the British behind . . . shame for Cameron - he was playing well . . .

But Kyle looks reasonably calm and in control so fingers crossed . .

(Not sure I can see Liam beating Ginepri, but youth has to have its day sometime so why not now . .. )

Not a very good second set from Kyle - and he loses the TB 8-6

TB 6 points each second set. Very poor quality on both sides of the net if I'm honest. Kyle should have wrapped this up quite some time ago.....

.....but he has been throwing in UE after UE, especially when overplaying put aways from a winning position. Very odd.

...was a break up.....then up breaks 3 times in the TB.....finally losing the set with some very bad technique.

I don't recognise Kyle compared to 6 months ago......even the big pop he seemed to have on his forehand seems to have lost a yard or 2 of penetration.

Kyle seemed to lose his momentum, when a break up in the second, a long point at 30-15 *4-3, saw him yell in anguish, thought he might have rolled his ankle, but it was out of picture, umpire/Bjorn were concerned. But thankfully not a problem, however he did get broken in that game.

There was one at *5-4 up in the breaker which i hope he doesn't live to regret.

I'm trying to stay positive.

Yes, he went crashing out the picture, bottom right, and I rather thought he was looking at his arm/elbow when he came back on screen (wondered if he's fallen over and skinned his arm a bit . .)

But he certainly seems OK, physically, now - although rather disinterested in the whole thing . . .

This is running away far too quickly. 0-3*

Sad to say that in the end, that was painful to watch. Kyle lost in the 3rd 6-2

Only saw sets 2 & 3. Fair play to Bjorn who served well and kept the ball in court. Kyle's first serve was non existent and his error count was huge.

I get that Kyle is still developing, including physically.

But there seem to be a worrying number of Kyle matches with big changes in momentum, and his own level really drops, particularly later in matches.

Would appear that a lot of work aimed at improving his endurance might be useful, so that he is physically more able, and also probably mentally more able, later in matches.

He can look very good, encouragingly so, but not consistently enough in a whole match, particularly if it goes to three sets.

Liam is on serve at 4-3* after recovering an early break. He's won 12 out of the last 13 points.

His serve has got a lot of beef on it nowadays I must say!

Liam fully deserved that first set, taken 6-4

Now that was impressive, serving huge, great speed around the court, even if Ginepri wasn't at his best, it's still a big win.
