With mega thanks again to wolf !!! - I'll be back in 30 mins to have a look at Andy on court 3 (and Sizya - last match court 2 - if I'm around). And then there's all the MD Brits later on . . :::)))
- no sound (for me, at least) and no score on the actual livestream page (open another tab), but great picture and great to see some of the guys one's never seen before.
For what it's worth (which is not a lot) my take is that I tend to agree with paulisi's description of Bettles, at the start of Wrexham, as 'fairly solid with no real weapons'.
Which is not a criticism, as it could be said of a whole heap of players up the rankings (Ed Corrie's game is pretty much that, and he's one of my favourite players; David Ferrer is the same but takes solidity to a level where it becomes a major weapon in itself). That said, he (Bettles) tends to come up on his toes and 'flap' at the ball, all arm and a bit off-balance.
No real comment on Joe as it looked good but the match was so one-sided you can't really judge.
But Kivanda has an attractive game - rather clay court to look at (did he somehow learn on clay?). Like the whip he gets on his backhand, and the courtcraft. Doesn't get much on his serve though, which is a problem (and this is hard court, indoors).

joe has sailed through his first set, and is better than his opponent, 6-1
Andy has had a harder time of it, playing a guy with a bizarre, Gulbis-like driven forehand, and lots of sliced 'nonsense' shots, but has managed to win the first set 6-4. Was close though.
