Prior to this tournament Vaidisova's last match was a loss to Heather in March 2010. At the time Heather was ranked 484 and Vaidisova 177. In 2006 Vaidisova twice beat Mauresmo then ranked 1.

As of Wednesday evening Joko was the last girl standing in singles.... Harriet was the only other first round winner. Slightly disappointing.

Jo was forced back all the time in the first set by Vaidisova's big shots and immaculately consistent depth.

Vaidisova has gone off the boil a bit in the second, and Jo is playing better and fighting hard

Jo ties it up, a suspicion that Vaidisova tanked the back end of that set, but Jo had dominated the first hal, and played much more within herself than on some other occasions recently.
