Don't know about getting carried away. But it was the WR 368 that Farris beat in the QF before now beating the WR 317.
Some of us were already noting his consistent series of encouraging results over just a few months.
Adding this week's points ( so far ) that's 32 points from 7 counting events in a short period. Just projecting that out to 16 events is equivalent to over 70 points from a full 16 counters and top 500. And he is on a clearly improving trend, so that would underestimate his immediate potential. He has the look of a player who can go considerably higher than that.
His studies may now slow down his rankings progress, but there certainly IS quite a lot to excite. No pressure at all, but just saying it as it is.
What I like (from the articles that I think are on the dedicated thread) is that he seems to be a man who's 'had his wobble' and come through it.
From my reading, he went off to college, all gung-ho, assuming it'd all be easy, life of Reilly. . . . found that (surprise, surprise) it wasn't . . went a bit AWOL for a while . . grew up a bit . . and then decided that tennis/college is what he really wanted and buckled down.
I think that changing his allegiance to the GB tennis federation is another sign of someone who is now taking it seriously. No disparaging that Libyan federation whatsoever but obviously the tennis resources are not comparable and Farris will now be entitled to a healthy bonus top-up cheque (he mentioned funding in one of the articles somewhere as a factor). (Unlike someone like Bedene or Greg, I'm assuming he's only changed his tennis allegiance as he has - or is entitled to - dual nationality anyway (which is more fundamental) and that hasn't changed).
