Marcus is up a set and a break but it is by no means plain sailing.

7-6(2) *3-2

L32: (1) Marcus Willis WR 347 beat (LL) Francesco Bessire (ITA) WR 2179 (CH 1714 last month) 7-6(2) 6-4

The match looked very serve dominated from the stats. Marcus converted 1/3 BPs and didn't face a single BP himself. Infact, he only dropped 9 points on serve in the entire match.

I notice that Marcus's ranking is practically where it was at the start of the year, just 3 places down.

That ties in with my impression of him not playing too badly but having rather flatlined after the previous great strides forward.

I do wonder at times if a bit more ambitious scheduling would have been more motivational and thus helpful, with the more variety offered and stiffer challenge

It's great to have all our top 10 either in or threatening the top 300. Would be really good to see Marcus join them.

Hopefully, he can have a productive week.

Marcus and Mick - who seems quite good mates from their tweets :) - win again:

Silly me!   So it is.  The perils of copying & pasting:  I forgot to change it! wink
