Em has taken the 1st set in the tiebreak. She had 6 bps in the 1st set but couldn't take any, but only faced one (when serving at 5-6 which she saved with an ace).
Pity, but looks decent effort. Emily does seem to have gone back up a gear this year, which must make her world travels more enjoyable.
Looks as if the bulk of her BPs ( don't know about the third set ) were in the first set, which in the end she still won, so not so costly in that respect.
Feel really disappointed for her. She's playing miles above her ranking just now but not getting the rewards. These points would make a big difference but im pleased she's giving this swing a go even if she doesn't defend her points from last year
Sadly Kostova has form for that kind of thing. Em lost 5 games in a row from 1-0* in the second so sadly the tactic worked.
Yes Indy and of the 4 other break points (two in each set) one in each set was an ace. It's a shame she didn't level at *3-3 in the final set but not to be.
She's got one last WTA event to try and make a bit of a splash - the Tokyo Premier next week. Not sure what she has planned for the autumn but the Ozzie 15ks look appealing on current form if she wants to cover what she is defending.
Slightly frustrating that there was a late withdrawal from the main draw. A little earlier and Kostova would have been bumped up to replace the seeded qualifier moved to the main draw, leaving Em with an alternate.
