Boys & Girls: Canadian Open Junior Championship - Hard - Grade 1 (Week 35)

A big tournament in its own right, and the warm-up to the US Open:

Girls:

R1: Freya Christie def. (q) Isabelle Boulais (CAN)  6-1 6-2

R1: Emily Arbuthnott  def.  (q) Alexandra Sabe (USA) 6-0 6-1

R1: Katie Swan  def.  Katherine Sebov (CAN)  6-1 2-6 6-0  (it's on the site as 6-1 2-2 6-0 but assuming they meant 2-6)

Gabi and Izzy and Maia have a bye through round one.

Alex Sendegeya plays later.

Gabi has won too (3 & 3 v (WC) Petrick (CAN)), thus setting up an all-GB QF against Freya

A first G1 QF for Freya. If she wins the all-Brit QF that will probably earn her a Special Exempt into the US Open (there are a couple of higher ranked eligible players left here though)

Alex also makes his maiden G1 QF with a potential Special Exempt for the US Open at stake next, but both potential QF opponents are strong

QF

Alexander Sendegeya (GBR) v (13) Mikael Ymer (SWE) or (2) Naoki Nakagawa (JPN)

Wonder if Katie was inspired by the performance of her very good friend CC Bellis yesterday? Outstanding, the both of them

Really lousy results in the doubles :::)))

All lost their first match, except Maia and Izzy (not together) who managed to make it to match two before losing.

So nice to see the singles winning for a change !!!
