Injuries and Illness - and good luck wishes

A little bit of good news from the WTA website.The following players have got married in the last few weeks:-

Anastasia Potapova and Alexander Shevchenko (ATP Pro)
Shelby Rogers and John Slavik (a former college hockey player)
Mirjam Bjorklund and Denis Shapovalov
Madison Keys and Bjorn Fratangelo
Marta Kostyuk and Hryhorii (I can't find any info about him)

And not to forget Petra Kitova who married her longtime partner Jiri Vanek in July

Well, well, well. It's a funny old world. Nowt whatsoever to do with tennis, but the girl's father, Lee Dong-gook, played briefly for my home-town football team, Middlesbrough, in the late noughties. He was brought in in the hope that he would prove to be the answer to the club's (& the fans') prayers that he would be the next goal machine. He wasn't. He proved to be just the latest in a long line of duds, so he's not exactly fondly remembered by fans whose memories go back that far!

This is not 'illness and injury'

But just that your heart breaks when you read that Zainab Ali Naqvi, a 17 year-old Pakistani girl, who was due to play her R1 match in the J30 in Pakistan this morning, suddenly collapsed after a training session and died, probably from an undiagnosed heart condition

With deep condolences to all her family

Alison Van Uytvanck has said she needs a year or so out of tennis - apparently, she has a double hernia in her back which started to appear in summer of 2022.

And Muchova is finally having wrist surgery, after not playing properly since last year's US Open

And Tanysha was always one of my favourite juniors to watch - a very graceful yet dynamic player - and with a lovely family

And now she's effectively wheelchair-bound ......

So, just a little shout-out to Tanysha, and her family, wishing her all the very best, and all others too affected so badly by the aftermath of the virus

I wonder if she has progressed at all in the last year. At 21 she does have a decent chance of recovery eventually.

Just to note, recently:

Badosa - says she's living with a back stress fracture - will need regular cortisone injectsion if she's to carry on playing

Muchova has just had wrist surgery

Alina Korneeva (only age 16, ex #1 in juniors, ex 260 in adults) has just had wrist surgery

One of the Ukranian (?) players has recently retired due to ongoing back problems

I don't think it's been a particular spate recently, but it's rather high profile, how many career threatening and career changing injuries there are
