Injuries - and good luck wishes

Agnieszka Radwanska, one of the most entertaining players to watch, has announced her retirement at the age of 29

Her announcement is here

She was a pleasure to watch, all the best to her in the future.

I hadn't been aware that she won WTA shot of the year 5 years in a row but, while clearly not having the power of many, that is an indicator of the sheer talent she could often display in the moment.

Missed this the other day.

Lucie Safarova announced after the Fed Cup final that she is to retire AFTER the Australian Open for health reasons, and won't be playing any tournaments before then.

She had a CH of 5 in singles just three years ago, and won 5 doubles slams partnering Bethanie Mattek-Sands

Best wishes to Nicole Gibbs, who is having surgery for cancer of the salivary gland.

Out of RG but hopes to be back for Wimbly.

Read about that, seems a very rare illness. Wish her well but prognosis appears good

Well done on Anne Keothavong for further highlighting the research that needs to be done into links between injury and hormone levels:

More Anne Keothavong Retweeted Anna Thompson

I have been saying this for years. I snapped my right and left ACL, both times it was during my menstrual cycle.Anne Keothavong added,

BBC Sport - @Lionesses @JordanNobbs8 calls for research into ACL injuries and menstrual cycles after suffering her injury which ruled her out of the @FIFAWWC on the first day of her period

Lucie Safarova announced her retirement.
Super player, lots of craft and style, who far outperformed all the estimations of her from the pundits, both in singles and doubles.
Top ten singles, one Slam runner-up. 5 doubles Slam titles.

Quite the loveliest and kindest person you could ever hope to meet.
Wish her the very best for whatever the future holds.

Lucie is expecting her first child later on in the year.

Kevin Anderson will become a father.

The two pieces of news being unrelated, just to be clear...

The season is over for Roland Garros finalist Marketa Vondrousova. After today's wrist surgery she wants to come back in full strength in 2020. She was treated in the same clinic, that saved the career of Petra Kvitova after the knife attack in 2016.
