Interesting, Steven.

Can't help love Emily as she has been moving back up the rankings, in pleasing retort to all these who from time to time bug bisuggest that she is in some sort of terminal decline and / or indeed that she should retire.

And she still seems to really enjoy what she does :)

Jeezo Katie has really blown this one. Was playing some good tennis to go a double break up in the second

Katie is clearly a talent, but there have been a number of tournaments recently when she has lost from winning positions, including multiple match points up. Question marks over her match play perhaps? If you dont take your chances against "better" players, they beat you.

Good matchplay very much tends to come experience, and I am pretty sure that she will significantly improve in that area.

For me, Katie's tennis is generally coming on well, and that's what matters at this stage

Pity, and I imagine that Katie will be pretty hard on herself, but as I said...

I agree. Katie B is the real deal, as far as I'm concerned. And well on track.

She's only really seriously moved up to adult tennis this year. She could have blown the match yesterday, and didn't. So this one gets away . . . c'est la vie.

Another short match for Emily, but this time for the wrong reasons

L16: Emily Webley-Smith WR 367 lost to (2) Aliaksandra Sasnovich (BLR) WR 123 (= CH) by 1 & 1

Em played very well this morning but was very slap dash this afternoon. Working points well and then hitting a howler. Second set was much closer, Em had game points in three service games, including 40-0 in the last game so she did have opportunities to make it a tougher test.

She'll be disappointed to lose 61 61 but another few points banked.

Well, I don't know what the LTA make of it, but last week's Nottingham 10k was certainly way more fun for the spectator than this 25k (notwithstanding that some girls put up some stellar performances)

Interesting (on a day where there's not a lot of tennis!), Emily WS says that Woking (I assume) are using Babolat balls this year which don't take spin, slice and look like the cookie monster after a few games. :)

She doesn't like them !

People generally think that all tennis balls are standard and it's true that they have to be within guidelines. But there's still a lot of difference, in weight, material and construction and everything, and it can change things a lot.

Conditions looked unbelievably heavy during her second round match. The ball was moving so slowly through the air.
