RE: Week 33 - ATP Masters 1000 - Cincinnati, OH, USA qualifying - Hard

Ah shame, was hoping he'd get Sousa.

A couple of cracking wins this week and another 35 (at least) points this week. Excellent stuff.

Absolutely cracking win, well done wards. Top 40 scalp potential awaits, if he can keep his top 20 quality serve in play, game on! Come on.

Dino is in top form!  I hope he can stay healthy.  If he maintains this level, I think he'll have an excellent chance at the USO qualies.  Some quick maths suggests that a first round win this week will take him to a new career high of around 130.    He is not on today's oop so he can rest up.

I wonder if the USTA have ever consider streaming qualies of tour level events?  Overall, I think the quality of the streams is great and even the commentators are good -I think they are probably  from a similar tennis background as ourselves so I much prefer listening to them than a mainstream UK commentator.  My only gripe is the repetition of the ads! I have no problem with ads at change overs, but must it be the same ad every single time??!!

The French are implying it was because Mathieu has just returned from injury. :)

But he's only been out a month (since Bastad, when he retired with the injury which, I think, is completely better now) so it's hardly long.

Glad to see that James is keeping some perspective though : :::)))

Thanks CD. I didn't realise this was his first Masters MD. Even bigger congrats!

cracking win by james, two top 100 players in a row is impressive stuff.

much deserved pay-day now, and a realistic chance of round 2 (which would mean a new career high I think).

also there's now a decent chance James will be seeded in US qualies, thus avoiding the top players to start with.

It must be the first one he has qualified for. He got into the Indian Wells MD earlier this year as a Lucky Loser where he lost to then No.37 (Now No.16) Feliciano Lopez in 3 sets. I think it was mentioned earlier but the player he lost to in final qualifying there was PHM. Haha.

Well done Wardy! So great to see him in good form. Hope he keeps it up. Would love to see him stay healthy and take out his career high. smile

Brilliant from James
I was "watching" live scores, but for some reason couldn't get on here - could get the homepage up, but anything and everything I clicked on just took me to the homepage again. Very strange. It did happen once before...
Anyway, back on now as though nothign has happened!

Computers are weird cattle, all sorts of strange things happen and then sort themselves. A few days ago I couldn't get tennistv on Chrome, though I could on Firefox, then the next day all was well again.

Any known reason why our erstwhile GB No 2 didn't play qualifying?

He did. He made main draw.

If you mean Evo, he is GB no.3 and he flew home  from US straight after defeat a couple of weeks ago.

Eddie did say 'erstwhile' no. 2, paulisi, i.e. 'former 'no. 2, which is indeed what Dan Evans is.

My "source" told me that his knee was still an issue.

Knee or not, Dan will probably drop to around 250 after the US Open unless he pulls a miracle out of the bag.
