RE: Week 33 - ATP Masters 1000 - Cincinnati, OH, USA qualifying - Hard

He had at least 1 break point to go 5-2 up but couldn't take it/them and has now been broken himself

6-4 4-3*

I do hope this isn't James doing his "start playing passively when close to the winning post" routine again. Come on James, this happens far too often. 6-4 *4-0 at one stage......

Just realised (as Jan implied above) that James was a set and *4-0 up only to get broken back twice as Kamke won 3 games in a row (and counting)

Kamke serving to stay in the match - 0-40!!

4 years on from the last time he upset Kamke, James does it again, breaking to love to win the match!

QR1: (alt) James Ward WR 150 beat (q6) Tobias Kamke (GER) WR 78 (CH 64 in 2011) by 4 & 4

Probably PHM next - he's a break up in the 3rd.

Well done, James :)

But a pretty poor attempt at playing with our emotions. Just not in Heather's class !

And in the doubles, unless I'm much mistaken, only Dom & TCH:

R1:  Marin Cilic & Santiago González (CRO/MEX) CR 328 (287+41) vs Treat Huey (PHI) & Dom Inglot CR 62 (33+29)

16pts is a nice little bonus for a comp he was lucky to get into.

I think this will be James' break through year. Much more consistent, his ranking is improving and is much more likely to be seeded in challengers now and get easier draws. Plus he has a couple of non-counters as back up.

Well done James !

And so who did the Jan 2014 end-of-year rankings prediction game and had James in the top 100 ?
