I think it's legit, Nik said on twitter that she changed nationality to get away from all the endless politics surrounding the Scottish Independence vote, strange choice of country but kudos to her for making a stand.

Are you just trying to see whether anyone will fall for that? wink

Next question:  how come she managed to satisfy the residence qualification (I assume there is one) so quickly? whistling.gif

Not a great loss for the Japanese pair, but always pleased to see Emily winning.

The result of a doubles match yesterday which doesn't appear to have been reported:

R1:  Naomi Broady & Irena Pavlovic (FRA) CR 649 (157+489) defeated Kaitlyn Christian & Maria Sanchez (USA/USA) CR 871 (781+90) by 7-6(6) 6-1

DF and I did put up this result, but not with anything like all the details so it certainly bears repeating !

In the singles, as mentioned, Naomi will now play Petra Rampre, WR 331, who is age 34 and with a CH 151 in 2012, at age 32. Although she's had a pretty skinny last 6 months  . . .

Naomi takes the first set 6-3, a bit of a wobble serving at 40-0 being pegged back to deuce but she held on.

She has however just missed 4 break points in the third game of the second set. *1-2

And immediately goes a break down *1-4

Takes your chances Naomi.....

Rampre has only won 5 matches this year (despite playing a very full schedule)

Naomi misses game points, and apparently retires 63 14 *40-40

Very, very odd. She was totally dominating, then missed all those break points. No idea what the problem could be, but I hope she's ok and it's just a precaution with the US Open coming up. Could do with a good North American swing (she's down for the indoor WTA in Quebec) before she starts defending reasonably chunky scores from Lagos and Barnstaple in October.

Em just starting.

From 40-15 up, Em has to save two break points but she salvages the hold

1-1*

Em saves a break point with an ace, but doubles on her first game point, misses a second, saves another break point with an ace, and holds

2-2*

It does seem like it's really a question of when, rather than if, the Frenchwoman pulls away in this match, but Em does seem to be playing good tennis this trip, even if she wasn't quite able to get over the line in her two matches in Canada.
