Rich giving it another go & has a winnable first round, but would face Laurynas Grigelis, the q1, in the second.

QR1:  (q2) Dan Smethurst WR 242 vs Dennis Novikov (USA) WR 451
QR1:  Josh Milton WR 475 vs (q8) Dennis Nevolo (USA) WR 420

All three in the top half of the draw.

Not a nice draw for Smethurst, either. Novikov is dangerous, and I think this may be a "home" tournament. (Checks Google Maps and his university page - and yes, it is. He comes from San Jose).

The above with CHs (all 3 opponents seem to be on the up) & a bit more info:

QR1: Richard Gabb WR 439 v Alexander Sarkissian (USA) WR 690 (= CH)
QR1: (q2) Dan Smethurst WR 242 v Dennis Novikov (USA) WR 451 (CH 450 last month)
QR1: Josh Milton WR 475 v (q8) Dennis Nevolo (USA) WR 420 (= CH)

Richard can't have missed out on a seeding by much and as well as potentially getting the top seed in QR2, his first opponent is on a 5-match winning streak, having won Vancouver Futures 2 weeks ago, hence the CH this week.

Nevolo beat Dan S in Binghamton recently.

Grigelis broke in the 2nd game of the 2nd set and ended up serving for the match, at which point Richard broke back
