Klein was on a real downward trend when he first swapped nationalities, but seems to be finding some form in recent weeks and his ranking is climbing back somewhat. Another with potential to break 300.
SF: (4) Ilija Bozoljac & Goran Tosic (SRB/SRB) vs Brydan Klein & Nikola Mektic (CRO) CR 514 (268+246)
I wonder whether Bozo's ignominious defeat will be preying on his mind when he's playing in the doubles SF later or act as an incentive to exact revenge...
Klein reached a CH of 174 ( a fair bit higher than Kyle has yet reached ) more than 5 years ago, still aged 19, which was pretty impressive.
Although he has certainly had his issues in the intervening years and his latest form is a bit of a surprise, I would have thought that he still had the underlying talent to not just be top 300, but maybe be top 200 again.
Well done, Brydan. As mentioned before, he played well at the Wimbly qualies - not only good tennis but serious, focused and 'respectful'. So, on the basis you can only judge what you see, (and there are many youngsters who do dubious things as part of their growing up), let's hope all the other stuff is behind him and it's all on the way up from now. I'd have thought top 200 was a given (in terms of potential), as he's been there already and, statistically, should be getting better. I'd hope he was aiming for something better than that.
NB I've never reckoned much to Mannarino - he's obviously not chopped liver, but he's hardly a really scary prospect either . . .
