Not in my opinion either (although it's only an opinion).
Greg has been with Kyle at several tournaments where Kyle has performed pretty poorly. So greg can't really get the credit now that one clicks.
The scheduling question is interesting and I know a lot of people have strong opinions.
However, a guy the age of Kyle is going to improve significantly, and not always in a straight line, without there being a quantifiable reason - as Bob says, natural progression is the most likely . . .
Good news everyone. You can all have a lie in tomorrow. Play starts at 6am UK time but Kyle is 4th match on Centre Court, so will probably be somewhere around lunchtime.
Oh for once I'm quite upset about that - we're up early to go away, so I'd thought I might catch some of the match if it was early! Now I won't, and I don't think internet access is great where we're going either, so might not get the result.
Oh well, good luck Kyle!
I know that 1 of the areas that Greg was going to work on initially was for Kyle to come forward more often, basically in order to shorten some of the points.
I do rate Greg as a coach, the only worry I had was the number of weeks he would be able to commit to, so with a longer period now working together continuously its certainly possible it is now making a difference.
I certainly don't have particular knowledge about the coaching methods of Colin Beecher and Greg Rusedski. BobiS is probably someone who has more of a feel for this, having had closer contact with Kyle.
But just looking from this distance, with how Kyle was progressing last year and then progressing further this year, I think it is very difficult to assign any particular "Rusedki effect". The progression we are seeing here is the sort of progression that could reasonably have been anticipated under either coach. Of course, not to be taken for granted, but yes, to a large extent, a natural progression. Maybe Greg has been changing Kyle's game a bit, and the progression remains good, but I suggest not startling. The natural talent and groundwork done with Kyle is a heck of a base.
Very interesting re Kyle's schedule this year. The first half of his year brought much diverse comment on here, though most seem happy with his schedule now. I think arguments can be put forward on both "sides" as to whether the results and progress now are in many ways because of or actually to a fair extent in spite of that schedule.
Results would suggest that it certainly wasn't particularly detrimental, but personally I remain unconvinced that his first half of the year couldn't have been handled better.
Blaz Kavcic's ranking means that he should make the Citi Open MD by right, but he's still listed as 3rd alt. Has the date passed for future (ie. this Monday) ranking changes to affect the MD? I was hoping he may be a little...distracted
Once an entry list is issued, with the ranking scores and order at that time, it doesn't change.
Yes, folk may withdraw, but no player overtakes or falls behind an other player based on anything between the entry list being issued and the tournament.
Ranking changes can effect seedings, but not entry.
