Question of an ignoramus here: do the qualies have a later cut-off date than the main tournament? Main tournament cut-off has already happened, hasn't it?
I have no idea. But of course, the "ignoramus" could easily be me.
I saw the last 4 games, and it all looked very easy, which underlines for me the impressiveness of the performance, and if he's made the cut for the US open qualies, I would 100% play, but its not my decision. I'm not sure if its just me but Kyle's double handed backhand seems to be getting better and better with each match I've seen over the last month.
Slam qualifying entry dates are later than main draw, 4 weeks before rather than 6 weeks before.
The US Open qualifying entry list will be out next week based on rankings as of Monday 28th July, so what Kyle does this week will count.
Although I am one who has questioned Kyle's schedule and thought he should be playing more challengers ( which, of course, he has been lately ), I do think that he should take up any opportunity to compete in US Open Qualifying.
Dave & Bozo in a hurry (in the first set, at any rate; they had to recover an early break in the second! ) - & both with something to prove, I think, Bozo having been soundly thrashed (1 & 0) by the seventh seed, Marsel Ilhan, earlier:
L16: Kyle Edmund WR 267 beat (7) Thomas Fabbiano (ITA) WR 218 (CH 166 last month) by 5 & 1
I haven't bothered to look at the live ranking sites, since they tend not to agree outside the top 100 or so (I think there are problems in the way some or all of them deal with Futures points), but I think that win should definitely take him into the low 240s rather than the high 240s - i.e. more like 242 than 248.

Sorry that may have been me with the faux pas on the live rankings this morning it was early and I was rushing. I tend to use live-tennis-eu nowadays, but as it says in the name is live and is prone to changes.
I assume Kyle has the second seed Kavcic in the next round which will be a big ask.
QF: Kyle Edmund WR 267 v (2) Blaz Kavcic (SLO) WR 81 (CH 68 in 2012)
The Slovenian has won 21 of his last 22 Challenger main draw matches (won Fergana and Tianjin and runner-up in Nanchang in June, then won Portoroz earlier this month)

Kavcic will probably be about 2 levels up in class so its probably unfair to expect Kyle to cause an upset. Be good to see a competitive match though. Kavcic beat Muller a couple of weeks ago.
Day off for Kyle tomorrow. Maybe the wind will have dropped by Friday, although windy conditions may improve his chances given how well he coped today.
Kyle is being consistently tested at just the right level, and to put it another way is probably the type of player that Kavic will be wary about. In the last 6 months Kyle has gone from being competitive in the first set but then drifting away during the second and losing the third to a more sustained level of performance against players ranked 100-200. He really made Mulleur work and just lost out to a slightly more powerful player and Kavic and Mulleyr in their recent meeting had a fairly close run battle. Yesterday I felt Kyle had grown and his performance had a feel of controlled power without many errors, indeed windy conditions may be to his advantage. Let's hope a days rest will allow Kyle to blow Kavic away and the sustained march towards the top 200 by the new year continue.
