Kyle hit what looked like a perfect first serve but I think it was over-ruled. Kyle's livid. Was 40-0 in this game, now 40-30.

Not sure what happened there. He was 40-30 at the time and I thought it was called good. Both players were almost back in their chairs when they were sent back to replay the point. Good composure from Kyle to hold anyway.

1-0*

Kyle can't control this, frustrating though it is if he stays calm his game will take him through this.

I think it was called out and the umpire over-ruled, but told them to play the point again (even though it was clear that Berankis wasn't getting it back), which is what Kyle was contesting.

I assume that is Greg Rusedski in the back left corner taking copious notes as usual. It must be his lucky seat as he was sat in the same place all day yesterday.

If Kyle stays calm and keeps his level of play he should win this. But this is tennis so who knows

Great stuff by Kyle, but maybe steady on his "game already looking too powerful for challenger tennis" !! How many challenger semi finals has he reached ? How many challenger semi finals and finals has he competed in ?

He will I think indeed greatly benefit from this week and similar experiences in the future. His general play has really come on, but he still needs to develop matchcraft, particularly with regard to the most important stages of a match.

Hopefully, though, this can be a match with a positive outcome.

Nice break, persistently scraping the points back seems to be reading the serve well and in a good position when he goes wide

Unfortunately, Berankis may be staging a bit of a comeback:  he broke Kyle to love in the seventh game of the second. hmm  *4-4...
