Alex is through to QF of doubles as is Gabi. Freya and Emily have not played their second round match yet.

Looks like Gabi was the only one of the four Brits to win in singles today.

Not a great day here with Gabi indeed the only winner. Alex did well to win a set, but Maia was tonked by Zhuk and Freya frustratingly lost from a set and 4-1 up, meaning that she has failed to get past this stage in her 7 G1s this year, and is heavily reliant on her doubles form to keep her place in the top 100 (speakiing of which she and Emily currently lead 7-5 3*-4 in the quarters)

Gabi is up against the top seed, and will be looking to improve on the 3 games she mustered against her in Spain earlier in the year.

Boys R3

(6) Johannes Haerteis (GER) d. (11) Alexander Sendegeya (GBR) 6-4 3-6 6-2

Girls R3

(7) Gabriella Taylor (GBR) d. Bianka Bekefi (HUN) 4-6 6-1 6-3
(12) Margot Yerolymos (FRA) d. (8) Freya Christie (GBR) 5-7 7-8(2) 6-2
(9) Sofya Zhuk (RUS) d. (6/WC) Maia Lumsden (GBR) 6-3 6-0

QF

(1) Natalia Vikhlyantseva (RUS) v (7) Gabriella Taylor (GBR)

Well done Gabi!

I feel Freya has slipped back a bit..or at least not really pushed on much of late.

I think you're right but I get the impression (and it's not really backed up by anything but I'd/I've put money on it) that Freya will have no trouble when she moves up to senior tennis. Freya has an adult game just waiting for her to be an adult . . .

Never seen Freya play. How would you describe her? Baseline big hitter?

Yes, I would. Although others may have a more informed view.

She's also had all her GCSEs this year and been concentrating rather on them too (although presumably quite a lot of other girls the same age have the same).

I may well be wrong (hope not!) but I just feel that she has the physique and the game that will transfer easily to adult tennis - it's not a 'junior' game.

Gabi put up a great show, especially if she only won three games the last time they played earlier this year !

Quarterfinal
