QF:  Richard Gabb WR 484 vs James McGee (IRL) WR 215 (CH = 206 in May)

The WR 215 should be a pushover for Rich after he dumped out the WR 84....

Very kind and considerate of Mr Gabb. He knows how much it means to BiS to hit his target for men in the top 500, and wanted to reassure him that this player at least wouldn't be one to worry about. (I think he's defended everything between now and September at one go ... very impressive). Well done.

Wow !

Presuming it was a big CH win for Richard, I went to check Helen Parish's table for his existing best. This shows his CH win as WR 84. Yes, already updated !

I used to be a fan of James McGee (not easy trying to make a go of it as an Irish tennis player . . .) until I saw his match against Bedene at Wimbly qualies.

James, in frustration, hit his racket into the court SO hard that it kicked out quite a big divot and the match had to be held up while they got the Umpire guy to come to try and repair the court - and it wasn't at the back of the court or the sides but right on the main playing surface of the actual court.

I understand players get frustrated and don;t really care about bad language or balls being sent flying out of court - but you can't just whack holes and ruin a court.

So, Richard, you've got my full support !

Could hardly believe this when I checked my phone last night I certainly can't remember Richard beating a top 100 / ex-top 50 player before! (I'm not even sure he had beaten a top 200 player before, but Helen got in too quick for me to find out without trawling back through his previous results)

Richard DF on match point to give McGee the win 6-3 6-4

Such a shame to end it that way but what a week.
