Hadn't realised till now that Ebden has only won 4 matches all year - confidence can't be that high.

Ebden was injured around Wimby time, so that might still be a factor.

Can I borrow your crystal ball please.

The match seemed to stop at 6-4 3-1 where I assume Ebden retired. He has treatment on his right wrist and arm at the end of the first set.

L32: (Q) James Ward WR 152 beat (7) Matthew Ebden (AUS) WR 81 6-4 3-0 Ret.

L16: (Q) James Ward WR 152 v Jimmy Wang (TPE) WR 133 or Michal Przysiezny (POL) WR 144

Wang is currently a set up but a double break down in the 2nd.

Have to look at this as an excellent chance to make the QF of an ATP 250.

Przysiezny or Wang awaits which is very winnable.

additional 20pts very welcome and 45pts if he reaches QF. Decent prize money as well.

Yes. That is $11.520 in prize money (+ an LTA bonus?). Either way, it should more than pay for the trip. Great choice of tournament. 32 points (at least) won't go amiss either.

Last time I saw the stream, James was something like 15-40 down at 4-4. I tune in again to find it's over and go to the live scoring app to see if he avoided a bagel; turns out he won! By ret., but won all the same! smile

I'm glad that James has got some reward besides the Q points, as not only does it cover his points coming off but it should also be a big confidence boost, however the win came. Coupled with a winnable second round against either opponent, I hope James can get to the QF and get some insurance for big points due to come off in the Autumn.

Cheers :) I can't remember the exact nature of his injury, but whilst I was at Nottingham Ebden withdrew to give Smethy a kinder draw. He either didn't play Eastbourne or was beaten easily. And certainly at Wimby he went down pretty tamely in 3 sets.(might have had a bet on that ;)

Ken and Neal are due on court shortly, but I believe it may be raining again.

Wang reached 3rd round of Wimby before being given a tennis lesson by Tsonga, so a tough matchup.
