Girls: Nike Junior International Edinburgh, clay - Grade 5 (Week 28)

A lot of British players as you would expect here, headed by second seed Emily Appleton. Fifth seed Ellie-Rose Griffiths and top under 14 Ali Collins are among those to look out for.

The full draw can be found at

Round 1 complete with Camille Verden Anderson removing the Singaporean fourth seed to ensure a British finalist. Top seed Jessica Crivelletto (who qualified at Roehampton before losing to Katie Boulter) is the only non-Brit left, having edged out Sophie Drakeford Lewis 7-5 in the third

British 3rd and 5th seeds lose today. But particularly nice win by 14 year-old Ali Collins against fifth seed, Ellie-Rose, 6-2 6-4

Grade 5's are generally development tournaments for the younger players, so most are new names to me.

Ali Collins is only just turned 14. Emily is also 14(15 Sept), but played junior Wimbledon doubles with Eden. Megan and the Swiss girl are both 15.

I suspect Ali Collins may be a name to keep an eye on.

Have to say haven't heard of many of these girls. Good to see who's coming up.

I think we now know who are the 98's and 99's to look out for but have no idea from the 2000's who are our best hopes. Any possible stars in the making?

Good effort by Megan against the top seed but it's Ali who's into the final, and very easily too:

Semifinal

Jessica CRIVELLETTO (SUI) [1] def. Megan DAVIES (GBR) 6-7(0) 6-1 6-4
Ali COLLINS (GBR) def. Emily APPLETON (GBR) [2] 6-2 6-0

Ali pulls off her maiden title. Other 2000s to look out for include Francesca Jones and Eliz Maloney, who contested a TE under 14 Category 1 final earlier in the year.

Doubles Final

Collins/Hunter d. (3) Appleton/Drakeford Lewis 6-3 2-6 [10-8]

There's a Tennis Europe Under 14s event taking place at Edinburgh at the same time as the ITF Juniors so just to give the participants their moment:

SF: (1) Anna Loughlan def. Mae McCutcheon 6-3 6-4
SF: (5) Alice Thane def. Hannah McColgan 7-6(7) 6-3

Final: (1) Anna Loughlan v (5) Alice Thane

Sasha Hill and Hannah McColgan won the doubles final

Ali has to be content with just the one title

(1) Jessica Crivelletto (SWI) d. (WC) Ali Collins 6-4 6-2

Anna Loughlan won the TE14 event (Category 3, which is the lowest grade) 6-2 6-4
