Other than going off to College soon, anyone know anything more about Watson? Coming out of nowhere to beat Corrie having lost the first 6-0 is pretty impressive.
Not a name I've ever come across of when scanning the Junior threads.
NB There was a cryptic (and rightfully so) tweet from Soto a few weeks ago saying that Josh has had to deal with 'some adversity' this year. Don't know what (obviously) but wish him well and hope the tennis clicks back into place at some point not too far away.
The main thing I noticed, and it stood out like a sore thumb, was that when I saw him live twice last year, he played with a joy and a fun in hitting the ball - infectious enthusiasm, if you will.
When I saw him in June, he wasn't playing too badly but played as though he had the weight of the world on his shoulders - it was all one big mammoth struggle.
I wondered if it'd been the move to NTC - added pressure ??? But other things come into play too, of course. I hope he finds the fun of tennis again . . .

He randomly beat the junior number 1 a few months ago on clay as well.
Cash saves a break point and serves it out for a great win.
Based on yesterday I expected Julian to give a Dave a run for his money but I wasn't quite expecting a win. It is all the more impressive after he a lost the first set from 5-2* and went down an early break in the second.

I think it's always difficult to gauge from afar why a tennis player is not performing up to expectations. Injuries/external pressure/ other non tennis related matters can all pay a huge part on what happens on the tennis court. I've never spoken to JWH directly so can't really add anything.
But for example Josh Milts who has hit top form, looked so relaxed when I saw him at Nottingham, just enjoying playing tennis. Mental mindset definitely can play a big factor for sure.
Almost needless to say, that's a career best win for Julian by miles - Dave is WR 323, 1103 places above him, and it's Julian's first top 600 scalp, let alone top 400 scalp!

Expect Oakley, Cash and Watson to get WC's for Frinton on the back of this week's result.
Unless there is an SE Oakley will make it in without a wild card. I am guessing Sapwell will get one because of his exploits at Wimbledon.
Cash seems to be an interesting case of someone who hasn't really excelled at junior level (highest ranking was 68) but shows some positive signs at futures level. He has played 5 futures tournaments and has got through the first round on 4 occasions, losing to Goodall in 3 sets the other time.
