Whilst clearly a bit "rusty" Kyle has still managed to beat a player 50 places above him in the rankings. Hopefully that will have blown off a few cobwebs and we will see more consistency in the next match. The signs were definitely there in the 3rd set.
Re Kyle, he obviously struggled a bit in the first set, and the Slovenian was certainly fired up by his crowd, but I thought, like others above, that Kyle came through well and that his forehand in particular really looked like a 'man's' forehand now. He did well :)
Get in Kyle! Didn't get to watch it but I was watching the scores and seeing that first set disappear was gutting. But he came through and that should do him a world of good, and I can see a QF appearance on the cards for at least one of the Brits, and both certainly isn't impossible.
Great result he's really struggled to beat older more experienced players after losing the first set much stronger than 6 months ago sounds like his best set was the third which is great to see, some way off coming back from 2 down against high ranked opposition in a slam but getting there great start to the week
Todays game against Gerasimov will be a good test of the wayKyle has been developed this year. Gerasimov has a higher ranking and played futures and challengers to get there. He is also two years older than Kyle with the same sort of profile as a senior as the Dans but perhaps a little steeper. Ollie Golding may mirror it. Kyle has generally done better in the challengers where they have both been in the field and I am hopeful the extra variety of experience will pay off against an opponent he comes into the game in fine form following a futures win. Can't wait
Dan is showing (to me anyway) that he has the potential to actually be a very handy player. Solid off both wings, doesn't make a lot of errors - his trouble is when he plays big servers!
