The first of the European Summer Cups has started - and unfortunately finished - for our under 14 squad. They were unfortunate to draw Spain in qualifying, whose players are usually underranked, because they don't play many Tennis Europe events.
The team of Jake Hersey, Jack Draper and Aidan McHugh lost 3-0 to Spain and beat Austria 3-0 and Greece 2-1 in consolation matches, but do not qualify for the finals or the World Juniors in August

Qualification for the under 12s Nations Challenge finals took place this weekend. Our team of Arthur Fery, Benjamin Heynold and Toby Samuel were in Romania. The format is 2 round robin groups of 4, with the top team in each group playing the second in the other group to decide who reaches the final. We finished second in our group and then played Serbia today in the play-off. Toby won the second singles in 3 sets, but straight sets defeats for Benjamin and Arthur/Toby meant a 2-1 defeat and no qualification.
The U16 and U18 European summer cup qualifying rounds have been taking place, with mixed success:
U16
In Zone A, the boys have failed to qualify:
QR1: GB def. Austria 2-1 Marcus Walters lost, Max Stewart won, and they won the doubles
QSF: GB lost to Hungary 1-2 Marcus and Max lost their singles and Thomas Wright and Marcus won the doubles
Play-off for 3rd/4th place - GB def. Croatia 3-0 Thomas and Max won the singles, Thomas and Marcus the doubles
U18
In Zone A, the GB boys have qualified, behind Spain
QR1: GB def. Serbia 2-1 Joel Cannell and Josh Sapwell both won their singles and lost the doubles
QSF: GB def. Slovenia 3-0 Joel and Josh won the singles, Joel and Aswin Linzen won the doubles
QFinal : GB lost to Spain 0-2 Joel and Josh lost the singles. Doubles not played.
The Poles prove too strong and GB lose 3-0 in the first round of the finals, Sapwell in two sets but Joel Cannell in what seems to have been a pretty tight match: 6-4 5-7 6-3
In the 5th-8th place play-offs we lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic. Aswin won in straights, Joel lost in 3 to a top 50 ranked player and Aswin plus Josh lost the doubles
