Despite the misleading name, Indy, Aubone's actually a Yank (born in Miami), not a Frog! And if the weird & wonderful pronunciation guide (I really don't get the "Jon-EEs" bit, but then, the Yanks are quite incapable of logic when it comes to pronouncing words in a language other than their own peculiar brand of English - only in America... ) in the "personal" section at the very end of his page on the Florida State Uni athletics site is anything to go by, he may well have some Italian blood coursing through his veins, too! Take a look at the seventh bullet point in the list of career highlights, too...
Oops, yes sorry, I should be much more wary about names, especially in the USA.
Anyway, the American that Liam lost to may have had some decent results and scorelines, but that's still a pretty comfortable looking 6-2 6-4 win. There really doesn't look much cheer there.
I saw Liam play Marcus in Edinburgh a couple of months ago, and it was a good enjoyable match. But it was a match between two players who, unless something dramatic happens, I'd see WR 200 as being probably about the longterm upper limit for both.
Liam does have time on his side ( as indeed still has Marcus, if less ), but to me he lacks the weapons to encourage me that he can get higher than I have indicated.
These last couple of weeks have still looked relatively poor, and I do think he is capable of better than this ( though there maybe remains a question re the collective mindset of these players "sent" over here ).
That's simply my own opinion, mainly based on his general results, and also what relatively little I have seen of him. If he ends up doing much better, great !
So close but yet so far. A great effort from Toby this week though
FINAL: Toby Martin WR 870 lost to Jean-Yves Aubone (USA) WR 711 (CH 475 in 2009) 1-6 7-5 7-6(6)
Even having lost today, he should finally take out his June 2012 career high and move into the top 750 (probably mid-730s) for the first time on Monday week
