The US and Chinese challengers are weak.

Josh Milton would probabaly sneak into the main draw in US if he wants to have a go.

No sign of Evo or Ward.

Evo played these tournaments successfully last year.

Tara is in Thailand 25K. Sam Murray Canada 25K. EWS qualies Canada. Naomi and JoKo withdrawn. Jade qualies for Czech 50K on clay. 15K Italy has Katy Dunne and Amanda main draw with Katie B in qualies. Laura Deigman Canada 10K. Eleanor Romania 10K clay. Egypt 10K currently has Danielle Konotoptseva main draw and Savannah Sills and Tiffany William in qualies.

I'm surprised by many of the choices made.

Evo and Ward are both in Lexington the following week.

In Evo's case he wanted a bit of time off to rest his slightly injured knee.

Seagull, isn't Binghamton the one you spell incorrectly every year?

I don't know about Seagull but I normally spell it wrong.

It's easier once you have heard how is is pronounced, i.e. BINGhamton, with the stress on the first syllable (as opposed to towns ending "hampton" which are always stressed on the "hamp")

Eleanor Dean is 4th highest on the entry list, so not a qualifier.  I'm looking forward to her playing again.

Nah. It's just the Americans don't know how to spell the names of their own towns.  wink

Eleanor Dean seems cursed by injuries

Would love to see her have play the tour on a regular basis

She has and always has had amazing potential but to date its unfulfilled

Who Knows where she would be ranked if she'd played the last 2 years

I was curious about why Binghamton should be Binghamton when, for example, East Hampton is East Hampton (NY). Was it simply a phonetic ellision? A good 18th century spelling error that got enshrined? It turns out - as per Wikipedia - that the town was named for Mr Bingham.

In actuality, I think it's the "Hamp" in "Hampton" that's the corruption, so to speak - as "ham" "hamm" and "tun" are good old Anglo-Saxon location designators, and apparently (again via the internet, but I see no reason to doubt this) in Domesday the names appear as "Hantune", "Hantone", "Hamntone" and "Hantun."

There's our useless excursus for the day!

Surprising James Ward hasn't entered a challenger this week, they're pretty weak. I guess he's resting or in the middle of a training block...

I think it was a great pity she didn't play junior Wimbledon.  She might have done really well there and who knows what will happen injury wise in the future.
