I hate to say this, but that looks almost winnable if Neal & Naomi are on form...

Should've kept my big mouth shut:  first set down the pan by 4-6. hmm

Looks as though they may just have rediscovered their mojo:  3-0* in the second...

Mergea plays a truly shocking game to give away his serve to love so Skupski/Broady up a break in the final set *3-2

Yes! 6-4 in the final set. Mr Skupski and Ms Broady into the QFs.

Was it 12 mps it took ? Last 2 games were just ridiculous. Admittedly some of them were saved by aces and amazing shots but some horrible misses too.

£11500 per couple for quarter finals so starting to be good earnings for Neal and Naomi.

Once again, terrific news to which to come.    Summary:

R3:  (10) Jamie Murray & Casey Dellacqua (AUS) CR 44 (32+12) defeated (6) Horia Tecau & Sania Mirza CR 32 (26+6) by 5 & 3  smile
R3:  (WC) Neal Skupski & Naomi Broady CR 210 defeated Florin Mergea & Elina Svitolina (ROU/UKR) CR 311 (39+272) by 4-6 6-3 6-4  biggrin

*****

QF:  (14) Max Mrinyi & Chan Hao-Ching (BLR/TPE) CR 50 (32+18) vs (10) Jamie Murray & Casey Dellacqua (AUS) CR 44 (32+12)
QF:  (WC) Neal Skupski & Naomi Broady CR 210 vs (6) Aisam Qureshi & Vera Dushevina CR 55 (21+34)

Good call with that wild card! wink  And, since the two pairs are in opposite halves of the draw, there's even the possibility of a 75% Brit/25% Aussie final... wink

And Murray and Dellacqua beat Tecau and Mirza 7-5 6-3, so that's one and a half British pairs into the QFs :)

What's the etiquette these days in mixed doubles ?

I don't watch that much mixed, but was watching earlier and Tecau absolutely pulverised a return back down the line past Dellacqua. The commentator then effectively said that it's fine to impose yourself, but you don't want to be doing that too often.

Rather intrigued, I watched some more and to my mind the guys certainly seemed to hold back at times against the women.

So what's the score here and is the trick to winning to go quite close to some sort of limit, but not over it ?

I imagine Naomi in particular will welcome her share of that cheque.  Let's hope they can make it more.

Actually probably Neal will welcome it more. Naomi has her cheque from the singles to bank. You made me look up their earnings to put it in perspective

2014 ytd Naomi $28k Neal $30k (excluding Wimbledon of course). The mixed doubles is nearly $10k each (and counting)......
