And the prize money is pretty tiny, compared with the other doubles.
Those who lose in the first round only get £700 each.
But at least it gives it a fun atmosphere.
(It has been said that the Brits do well in mixed doubles because more enter and then play quite well because, unlike most of the other players, the Brits have all been knocked out of everything else on day 1 so they've got nothing else to concentrate on but the mixed doubles. Bit unfair, but . . . .).
No points and not much money. But some non-Brits do take it fairly seriously: if I remember correctly, Nestor was quite keen that he and Mladenovic try for a full Slam this year (alas for them, they fell in the French). Pity that Fleming and Rae have quite a tough draw next: I'd rather fancy their chances to go deep.
Quite tough looking for Colin & Joss against the no 7 seeds, Bopanna and Hlavackova. But they had to meet a seeded pair in R2 ( all 16 seeded pairs having a bye ). I think they have a decent chance.
Were I Mr Skupski or Ms Broady (2-6, 4-1 as play suspended), I would not be at all pleased by that rain delay. Hope that they can start up as they left off.
Perhaps they were aware that Mr Skupski and Ms Broady were happy to have made the second week of a Slam and decided they'd give them even greater delight by delaying things so that they're around for QFs day.
