RE: Week 26 - USA F18 ($10,000) - Rochester, NY (clay)

Liam wins 1&4. Looks like he served well. Nine service games with no breaks and only gave up 1 BP in the entire match.

Bitterly disappointing trip so far from Luke, especially when you consider that just over 12 months ago he took Stakhovsky to 3 at Eastbourne.

I agree. Although as it stands at this very moment, the tally for the US trip is:

Liam - 2 points

Toby - 2 points

Luke - 1 point

ASH - 20 points smile

Liam and Toby still in it this week so could change obviously, but not stellar really from any of them except Ash. And especially when you consider what Luke and Liam are seeded.

(Ash closed out his match 6-3 in the third)

Ashley won 6-1 2-6 6-3 He gets 6th seed Aubone next, Liam gets Connor Smith.

Toby is having a good day, hope he can finish this one off and finally get over this year's R2 glass wall!

Toby has ended a run of 9 losses in R2 matches in some style, winning 2 matches in a day and bagelling the 5th seed into the bargain!

Maybe Liam has passed on to Toby the secret of winning R2 matches.

Liam has lost a few R1 matches, but on the almost 20 occasions that he's reached R2 in the last year, it appears that he has only once actually lost then.

( I just happened to notice the distinct lack of 1 pointers in his ranking scores, in very marked contrast to Toby ).

Luke and Liam, and Toby and Ash, also won their doubles matches (the quarter-finals for the LBs and first round for the other two) in tight matches - that's THREE matches in a day for Ash and Toby

R1: Ashley HEWITT (GBR) / Toby MARTIN (GBR) [3] 4-6 6-3 [10-8] Hunter CALLAHAN (USA) / Herkko POLLANEN (FIN)

QF: Luke BAMBRIDGE (GBR) / Liam BROADY (GBR) [1] 7-6(6) 7-6(3) Damon GOOCH (RSA) / Cameron SILVERMAN (USA)

So, yes, Toby certainly looks like the one to have drawn the short straw . . .

Not that short though. Toby wins 3&1. Really hoping he can break the R2 hoodoo this week. He is playing well enough.

Hoodoo ? What Hoodoo ?   Really pleased that Toby has made the QF. Hope he can take confidence from this and keep going.

Solid from Ash and Liam too.

Wow, where's Toby found this form from? Long may it continue.

Really disappointing trip from Luke so far.

From the comments I have seen from those who have seen Toby play this year, his form has been good for a while but he just hasn't (until now) been able to turn performances into results. Hoping that has changed now.

QF:  (3) Ashley Hewitt & Toby Martin CR 1651 (980+671) vs (WC) Jordan Benjamin & Matthew Gamble (USA/USA) UNR

Luke & Liam lie in wait in the semi-final for the winners of that encounter.  Here's hoping it's to be an all-Brit affair.

I was impressed with Toby when i saw him, i was somewhat suprised to see he had only got passed the 2nd round once previously in the last 12 months.

Hope he carries on the good form.
