RE: Week 26 - Bulgaria F3 ($10,000) - Stara Zagora (clay)

Good effort but Samm got the highest seed:

L16: (Q) Samm Butler WR 2054 lost to (4) Alexander Lazov (BUL) WR 554 (CH 452 June 2013) 3-6 6-0 6-2

Andy is serving for the match at 6-5 in the third. (But he's conceded 36 (!) BP chances already so he's not home and dry - Omar has only managed to take 8 of them so either Andy serves a bomb when under pressure, Omar chokes, or that's just the way luck would have it . . .

Jack is 4*-3 up against a pretty reasonable French guy

As CD implied, Andrew served for a career best scalp twice but (Tara style ...) got broken both times and eventually got edged out in the tiebreak:

L16: (Q) Andrew Bettles UNR lost to (8) Omar Giacalone (ITA) WR 678 (CH 643 in May) by 7-5 4-6 7-6(5)

But Andrew and Samm have demonstrated an encouragingly good level here.

Jack loses the second and we now have three out of three matches today that are going to three sets.

Would be nice if this one bucked the trend and finished positively !

Shame for Andy - but this is pro tennis - nobody will roll over and die and give it to you. He seems to be playing well though, as you say Indy, and Samm too.

Serving for the match, Jack had a match point, but Barrère saved it and now has a break point ... also saved.

Having beaten a player he lost to on grass in juniors in 2010, Jack now gets a player he beat in 3 sets on clay in juniors in Cap d'Ail the same year:

QF: (SE) Jack Carpenter WR 1229 v Cedrick Commin (FRA) WR 807 (CH 779 in Apr)

Commin upset the 2nd seed in R1

Jack in 0-3 down.

Cedrick was 70th or so as a Junior CH and, for a short while. was one of the 'next great hopes' of French tennis, that didn't quite materialise - a long time a-commin one might say . . .

Oh dear. Jack gets bagelled and in fact only won 3 points in his own serve in that 1st set.

Guessing he is conserving energy for a big comeback  wink

Not to be for Jack. A better 2nd set but he goes down 6-0 6-4

But all in all, it has still been a great two weeks for him in Bulgaria so far with one more week to go.
