RE: Weeks 26-27 - Wimbledon women's main draw

2 years in a row, 2 missed opportunities.

Somebody needs to sit Tara down and say 'Do you really want this?' If the answer is yes, she needs to work harder day in day out to get the best out of herself and her game. If no, she should retire now or she will regret not giving tennis her all.

The talent is clearly there but she's too streaky. I trust Sam's comments that Tara doesn't work hard enough and her results over the years show it. She was thought of more highly than Heather as youngsters and has been severely left behind

In my view, Tara lost that match not due to weaknesses/faults she made in that match but due to faults/weaknesses throughout the rest of the year.

She was in the driving seat in the third set and, as everyone says, tightened up - she really didn't look as though she believed she could win it.

And who can blame her ? Intellectually, she was right. She's barely won a good or important game for the last 6 months. Logic would say why do you think you can win this one if you haven't won any others?

Direct contrast with Naomi who, in terms of pure determination and gutsiness, played a blinder of a second-set tie-break - confident on the back of having closed out a good number of good and excellent wins this year.

Tara needs to really buckle down to the grind of winning the smaller matches, 'doing her scales' as the French would say. I love her tennis but it's no good bouncing from one near-miss Wimbledon wonder match to the next one, the same, a year later.

edit: just crossed with Merv - with a very similar post smile

Agree with you CD. But to be fair. The same could be said for Zvonereva, she's barely played any matches for around 2 years

Also worth adding that 3 were donating £3 to rallyforbally for every fistpump Tara did, so if nothing else she has done a wonderful job of helping raise money for a brilliant cause.

Tara back on court for her doubles already. Harshly quick turnaround.

Hev and Eugenie also about to get underway

Think that they'll move the Wozniacki/Broady match to Centre? With Querrey/Tsonga just starting, playing on court 2 tonight looks unlikely.

I suspect the plan was to put the two TBA doubles matches on centre and no.1, but that may not happen now.

They could move it to any of the larger courts dependant on what becomes available from 7pm.

Naomi's serve not doing much damage at the moment, making it very tough for her, despite some super backhands in her opening service game.

Much better service game with 2 aces and one unr as she holds to love.

Naomi's return awful. Failing to return 8/19 so far.

Lots of super shots from Naomi in that opening set especially backhands. Serve woke up after a slow start. Return as dreadful as usual. The contrast between Caroline's movement and Naomi's is striking.

Poor start to the 2nd set from Broady. Lost opening 9 points with far too many wild shots. Caroline finally gives Naomi a point with a poor error; her first mistake of the contest.
