Poor Sam (unless you assume she wasn't going to win anyway and a day on a show court is a bonus!) Decent draws for Heather, JoKo and perhaps even Tara (given Zvonareva's shaky comeback so far) and Naomi (given how close she has got to Babos in the past):
L128: Heather Watson WR 70 v Ajla Tomljanovic (CRO) WR 52 (CH 51 this month) L128: (WC) Samantha Murray WR 242 v (5) Maria Sharapova (RUS) WR 5 (CH 1 in 2005) L128: (WC) Tara Moore WR 245 v (WC) Vera Zvonareva (RUS) WR 561 (CH 2 in 2010) L128: Johanna Konta WR 109 v Peng Shuai (CHN) WR 60 (CH 14 in 2011) L128: (WC) Naomi Broady WR 164 v Tímea Babos (HUN) WR 94 (CH 59 in 2012)
Heather v Tomljanovic H2H: 1-2, all in juniors in 2009, but 1-0 on grass (Roehampton juniors)
JoKo v Peng H2H: 1-0, 1 & 3, Guangzhou 2013
Naomi v Babos H2H: 0-2, Edinburgh 2009 & Bratislava 2011 but both went to 3rd set tiebreaks

Considering potential draws in GS's, I think the only truly bad draw there is Sam's. Otherwise, I think Hev and Jo have very winnable matches and I wouldn't be surprised to see Naomi win if things went her way.
Excited, hardly. I would have thought this would be a wild card's worst nightmare: the prospect of a very public humiliation on Centre Court. Oh well, at least she'll be crying all the way to the bank.

I'd rather tell the grandkids about the time I played Sharapova on centre court at Wimbledon and lost 6-0, 6-0 then tell them about the time I played Babos on court 234 with 4 people watching and lost in 3 unremarkable sets.

Hear, hear! Well said, Sir - what an opportunity, and a dream of a draw, surely?
I would think it will be a success if Sam can avoid bakery products in both sets anything better than a 6-2 6-1 against Sharapova is a success. I doubt she will avoid it though sadly and I fear Tara may suffer the same treatment too. Heather Jo and Naomi all have great chances though about as good as could be expected for them.
Yes, I fear that you're right. We've all seen hopeless mismatches in big events where the lesser player freezes like a rabbit in the headlights, and goes down in a blizzard of double faults with the crowd hushed into an embarrassed silence. Hideous.
But at least Maria will be more gracious than Saint Roger was after defeating Alan Mackin in the Davis Cup in 2005: "I don't remember the last time I played such a low-ranked player, and it wasn't that difficult today".

This will be Maria's first match on grass so although I expect her to win easily she'll be a bit rusty at the start so Sam needs to get off to a good start
Not too good that Heather has Kerber as a potential R2 opponent after Halep in R2 at the French Open.
While it's nice to get a decent ( but certainly still not at all easy ) R1 draw, Heather is playing well enough to get through a few rounds with a decent draw. So my interest was more on the first seed she could meet, and that could certainly have looked much better.
