How unlucky loses first set 7-5. If Dan can keep his level here we are in for a match

Dan has a point to taken them into a tiebreak but double-faulted then Isner got another bp, went wide, challenged and Hawkeye showed it 1 or 2 mm in (Dan wasn't at all convinced and it looked out on the replay too)

0-40 on Isner's serve at the start of the 2nd set but Isner saves them all (the 3rd with a 137 mp ace) and another ace then an unreturnable close out the game.

5-7 *0-1

5-7, 3-6, 4-6. Shame, Dan would have probably had a good shot at beating a number of players in the draw playing at that level

Not to be, but he did force Mr Isner to serve it out 6-4. Great stuff for first Wimbledon against top 10 seed.

On a separate note, just saw this: online.wsj.com/articles/a-wimbledon-experience-for-father-and-son-1403609651. What are the odds, o statisticians, that the Wall St Journal's tennis correspondent should get into James Ward's father's cab?

L128: (WC) James Ward WR 154 lost to (17) Mikhail Youzhny (RUS) WR 16 (CH 8 in 2008) by 6-2 6-2 6-1
L128: (WC) Dan Cox WR 214 lost to Jérémy Chardy (FRA) WR 42 (CH 25 in 2013) by 6-2 7-6(3) 6-7(6) 6-3
L128: (WC) Kyle Edmund WR 320 lost to Andreas Haider-Maurer (AUT) WR 95 (CH 70 in 2011) by 6-3 7-6(4) 6-2
L128: (WC) Dan Evans WR 143 lost to Andrey Kuznetsov (RUS) WR 118 (CH 68 in 2013) by 6-1 7-5 3-6 7-6(5)
L128: (WC) Dan Smethurst WR 234 lost to (9) John Isner (USA) WR 11 (CH 9 in 2012) by 7-5 6-3 6-4

Best performances were from Dan S and Dan C (in that order), I would say. No wonder the former has done so well at the lower levels this year.

100% agree. Dan S showed the best tennis of any of the British men (Andy aside). Good luck to him for the rest of the year.

And, yes, Dan Cox put in a good show too and I'm glad he'd has so many positive feedback tweets.

Purely coincidental that these two Dans who put in the best performances are not part of the LTA team?

NB Did anyone else notice that Dan C and Dan S and Dan E had all had lovely new haircuts ? Looking very spiffy? Guess they knew they were going to be on telly ::))
